Silent Noise Revolution is a project of belgian composer/sounddesigner
Jan De Block.
Jan has a passion for classical piano and sound design. For years, he considered both passions as different worlds.
In 2015 he started to combine fragile piano with a modular synthesizer, and Silent Noise Revolution was born. A few months later, he was selected as finalist for a speeddating between composers and movie directors at the Brussels Film Festival.
In 2016, Jan joined the Belgian Screen Composers Guild.
From 2018 till 2020, Jan was voting member of the World Soundtrack Awards.
In 2023 Looking For A Heart Of Gold (Rudolf Mestdagh) won the Best Original Film Score award at Albori Filmfestival, also featuring Silent Noise Revolution tracks.
Since 2016, Silent Noise Revolution appears in every Piano Day playlist made by Nils Frahm.

Ik zoek een evenwicht tussen pianomuziek en elektronische ruis.
Ruis is overal en altijd aanwezig, we kunnen niet ontsnappen aan het voortdurende bombardement van informatie en prikkels.
Het maakt ons verward. Om tot rust en in balans te komen kunnen we twee dingen doen: regelmatig proberen om aan de ruis te ontsnappen, of de constante ruis een plaats te geven.
Beide zijn voor mij interessant, maar bij Silent Noise Revolution kies ik voor de aanwezigheid van ruis.
De combinatie van fragiele pianoklanken en elektronische ruis maakt het contrast groter. Bij een uitstervend pianoakkoord wordt de koude en afstandelijke elektronica een bron van schoonheid. Bijna al mijn stukken ontstaan op een achtergrond van abstracte ruis. Als ik op piano improviseer zonder elektronische ruis gebeurt er niet veel.
Een juiste dosis abstracte ruis teleporteert mij naar een plek die volledig los staat van de wereld. Het zorgt ervoor dat ik het automatisme waarmee wij onszelf beoordelen kan uitschakelen, waardoor ik in absolute vrijheid kan zoeken en experimenteren.

About Silent Noise Revolution
I search for a balance between piano and electronic noise.
Noise is everywhere and always present, we can not escape the constant bombardment of information and stimuli.
It makes us confused. To come to rest and balance, we can do two things: regularly try to escape the noise, or give the constant noise a place.
Both are interesting for me, but at Silent Noise Revolution I opt for the presence of noise.
The combination of fragile piano sounds and electronic noise increases the contrast. With a dying piano chord, cold and distant electronica becomes a source of beauty. Almost all of my pieces are created on a background of abstract noise. When I improvise on piano without electronic noise, not much happens. A correct dose of abstract noise teleports me to a place that is completely separate from the world. It allows me to disable the automatism with which we judge ourselves, so that I can search and experiment in absolute freedom. Judging and filtering I do afterwards.
